Liposuction is a very common plastic and cosmetic surgery procedure. It is best performed to remove localized fat deposits, which may develop in various regions of the body. Despite proper diet and exercise these fatty deposits usually persist leaving a dissatisfying body contour. As liposuction removes excess fat it reshapes body contours and creates a more cosmetic appearance.
Liposuction can be performed alone or with other plastic and cosmetic surgery. Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. The best cosmetic results are gained in individuals who are healthy and have firm, elastic skin. You will notice an improvement in your appearance soon after surgery, but the final results will be noticeable in about 3 months. Your surgeon will reinforce the importance to have a healthy diet and to exercise regularly in order to maintain your new body as liposuction does not prevent additional weight gain.

We recommend that liposuction is only performed under a full general anaesthetic in a private hospital by an experienced plastic and cosmetic surgeon. Although it is possible to perform liposuction under sedation and local anaesthetic patients often find it an uncomfortable and sometimes disturbing experience.
You may experience some pain, swelling, and bruising following the procedure. It maybe suggested by your plastic surgeon that you wear a compression garment for 2-6 weeks; this will help minimize fluid build-up and provide comfort as you heal. It will also help the skin re-contour to the new shape of your body. Your surgeon will guide your return to work which can be as early as a few days and normal activity in 1-2 weeks.
